Hi, I’m Ash
I’m a non-binary trans person based in Brighton, and I’m a trained and registered Humanistic counsellor.
I offer talking therapy either in-person at my space in Brighton’s Brighthelm Centre or online via Zoom.
My aim is to create a safe and private space for you to express yourself in the ways most suited to you, and to guide you in developing your insight and empowerment.
If you don’t have much experience of talking therapies or counselling, you might find my page about it useful.
I work in a Humanistic way – that means our sessions will be a collaborative effort, rather than me telling you what to do. No two people are the same, so it wouldn’t make sense to give you a pre-made answer. Instead, we’ll focus on exploring how you experience your problems, and how they fit into the rest of your life, with the aim of developing solutions that are right for you.
What that means in practice is that sessions involve us exploring your world through both talk and more creative methods (drawing, poetry, arranging toys) – whatever feels most useful for you to express yourself. I often work with clients to develop exercises for between sessions (eg, writing down how symptoms feel in the moment, or visualising aspects of yourself).
This way of working aims to increase your self-awareness, and to consciously reconsider habits of thinking that have become so ingrained that we stop noticing them. This includes how we react to distressing events, and how we treat ourselves and those around us. We can all choose who and how we want to be in the world – it can be hard work, but I know from my own life experiences that it’s possible.
My specialties are:
- LGBTQ+ and Trans issues – gender exploration, sexuality, and identity.
- Addiction – what keeps us trapped in behaviours we don’t want?
- Depression – finding meaning, and coping with adversity.
- Anxiety – exploring triggers, and finding ways to manage.
- Self-exploration – solving dilemmas, choosing your paths in life.
Sessions cost £55 and are usually weekly (unless arranged otherwise).
